the letter Hundreds of Richmond residents participated in this year's Super Cities WALK for MS. Starting from Steveston's London Heritage Farm on Dyke Road, the walk/run/wheel ended up at the foot of No. 1 Road in the village.

Super Cities WALK for MS

The Super Cities WALK for MS is a chance to make a difference in the fight against MS in 20 communities throughout BC. It was a day of fun, fresh air and exercise for all, with routes from 1 to 10 km and fully accessible for wheelchair/scooter users, as well. Funds raised through pledges support MS research and programs/services for people living with MS in our community.

There was a warm up before the actual walk with John Yap, MLA Richmond-Steveston leading the way. A ribbon-cutting

ceremony took place at London Farm's main gate, with MLA's Linda Reid and John Yap doing the honors.

The walk began as hundreds of participants took off heading west towards Steveston Village. This is a 6 km walk, with shorter versions for those who wanted it. It was a real sight to see as the sun came out raising everyones' spirits even more.

Multiple sclerosis (MS) is an unpredictable, often disabling disease of the central nervous system (brain and spinal cord). It is the most common neurological disease affecting young adults in Canada. An estimated 55 per 100,000 pop. new cases of MS are diagnosed every year. This means that three more people are diagnosed every day in Canada.

Multiple Sclerosis of Canada is a leader in the search to find a cure for MS. It has funded medical research into multiple sclerosis since its first grant of $10,000 in 1949. Today, the MS Society funds research programs totaling about $6,000,000 annually. The total investment in research since its founding is more than $107 million. In addition, the related MS Scientific Research Foundation funds large cooperative, multidisciplinary research projects. Together, they are the largest funders of MS research in Canada.
