ith spring just around the corner, thoughts turn to love, as the impending better weather raises our spirits. From romantic bed and breakfast accommodations to videographers, and great catering to salons galore, Steveston has what it takes to host your wedding.
Where in Steveston to Get HitchedGetting married means choosing between a civic or more traditional 'church' wedding. Steveston has many quaint, some historic, Christian churches, a Buddhist temple and a Synagogue. One is the Steveston United Church, which has a long history in Steveston and is known for its warm and friendly services. Nestled in the heart of the village, the Steveston United Church is an often sought after location for weddings. The Church offers a warm and friendly setting for that special day in a sanctuary that is tastefully decorated to suit your needs. The minister, Rev. Rick Taylor, performs a solemn Christian ceremony with a touch of humor for couples wishing to marry within their own faith or that of the United Church. The church wedding hostess provides the bridal party with assistance upon arrival through to departure, ensuring all details are met for a seamless wedding. Another Steveston treasure, now in its 79th year, is the Steveston Buddhist Temple which has been spreading the Dharma to many generations since 1928. You may also need accommodations for both the wedding party and out-of-town guests. Steveston is somewhat short in this area, but some of what it does have is historic, quaint and in, or close to the village. The Steveston Hotel, built in 1895, has two large romantic Jacuzzi™ suites and 10 private guest rooms. They can easily accommodate a "weekend stay" for a wedding party. They can also provide catering arrangements for parties from 50~200 people. On premises, they have a banquet room with a liquor license that comfortably seats 50~70 people. Bed and breakfasts are Picture Perfect Bed & Breakfast and The Seabreeze Guest House, both very close to the West Dyke Trail, which overlooks the water and tidal marshes, and is a scenic route to walk to the village, or just 5 minutes by car or bus. Also, co-owner of Picture Perfect B&B, Dave Kemp, is a pretty good cook, and being an avid photographer, he can point you to all the great photo ops around the area. The BanquetFood is always a big part of wedding festivities, sharing with those who joined you on your special day, the best you can afford. The food can be partly or fully catered by a catering service, or in a hotel or restaurant banquet room. As mentioned above, Steveston Hotel has a banquet room, but most dining venues for medium to larger parties are located in the larger restaurants. One restaurant that comes to mind is Sockeye City Diner, able to accommodate 10~140 guests. Also, Richmond locals Marat & Ella Dreyshner are working together with the community to establish a unique dining lounge and restaurant. Reflections Gastronomie is planned to open its doors in March, 2007. Their commitment to health, wellness and service excellence will be immersed in a European dining experience. Aspiring to be more socially conscious of healthy eating habits, the menus were designed to better our bodies using local, organic, ethically grown and seasonal ingredients. With no deep fryers on the premises, their chefs will instead be using healthy oils, grilling, baking, braising and smoking techniques. The intimate two-level restaurant encompasses an elite, yet warm decor. Floor to ceiling glass windows will feature an unparalleled view of the Fraser River. Guests who can't get enough of the patio season will find themselves relaxing on one of the two waterfront patios. Their new restaurant will cater to parties up to 120 people. For larger events, the Dreyshners recommend their catering service, Fired Up Events and Catering. The Steveston Seafood House, established 1978, and voted Richmond's Best Seafood Restaurant eight years in a row, has been renovated and can now handle parties of up to 60 people for lunch or dinner. Choose from a set menu or a la carte with a large selection of wines to choose from. Another good bet is the Charthouse Restaurant, on the second floor (elevator) overlooking Fisherman's Wharf. This large restaurant has a bright and spacious private banquet room, with views of the harbor and North Shore mountains. This room can accommodate 25~70 guests.
