Steveston restaurant guide

the letter If you're looking inexpensive, but fun things to do in Steveston, you've come to the right page. There's quite a few low-cost Steveston activities the entire family can enjoy.

  1. Join us for the Steveston Salmon Festival on July 1st to celebrate Canada Day. The only Canada Day celebrations in Greater Vancouver to still feature a parade, a 60+ year tradition. Fun for the entire family.
  2. Go fly a kite! No, I'm trying to be rude here, but Garry Point Park is one of the best areas in the Lower Mainland to do just that... Fly a kite. The park often has good steady sea breezes, along with open spaces necessary to launch and fly a kite. Kite competitions are often held here.
  3. Take a hike! Okay! Okay! I'm innocent of being rude, again. I meant, take a hike on the 2 km path around Garry Point Park. Great views of the water and the Gulf Islands in the distance, as well as lots of benches for rest stops.
  4. If #2 is just a warm up for you, continue on Richmond's West Dyke Trail from the north side of the park heading north. Lots of flora and fauna along the dyke trail, but don't forget to point out the numerous turtles in the ditch water (east side) a couple-hundred meters north of the park. Kids love those little critters.
  5. Spend some time at the Steveston Museum, at Moncton and 1st Avenue, looking over their exhibits on the main floor and upstairs. The museum has been in a few Hollywood movies, and the building, once a bank, celebrated its 100th birthday in 2005.
  6. Go to the Steveston Landing Boardwalk, at Fisherman's Wharf, and people watch 'till you drop. On a sunny weekend, especially during the warmer months, the Boardwalk is crawling with people from all over the world. Just listen for all the different languages spoken as people pass by.

  7. Visit the Britannia Heritage Shipyard Park to go back to Steveston's past, with regard to its fishing and boat building history. Come stroll down The Boardwalk and check out various historic buildings, mostly from the 1880's.
  8. Visit the Gulf of Georgia Cannery National Historic Site of Canada and check their Canning Line Exhibit. Lots of historic artifacts relating to the fishing and fish canning industry in an original cannery built in 1894. Open to the general public from May to October.
  9. Call your friends or family and have them meet you in Steveston for breakfast, brunch or lunch. With over 50 eateries, many with fantastic harbor views, Steveston is a great place to get together with the gang to share good conversation and food.
  10. During the season, treat yourself, family or friends, to a whale watching tour. See majestic orca (killer whales) and other West Coast wildlife at their best... Roaming, swimming or flying free!

  11. Come to Steveston for a walkabout to meet the friendly locals and visitors alike. There's something about Steveston that puts people on their best behavior... Even drivers! The more relaxed pace may be the reason, so come visit and relax.

  12. Need some fresh fish? Well, visit our Public Fish Sales Floats at Fisherman's Wharf and buy fresh seafood directly from the fishers.
  13. Come down and spend a day taking in the sites with your camera. Steveston has photo opportunities around most every corner, so don't waste another day waiting to capture that photo-of-a-lifetime.
  14. Is fish and chips your favorite casual meal. Then try the fish and chips at the many different eateries until you find your favorite, then keep coming back for more of the same. I know, decisions, decisions, but when you're a lover of fish and chips, what a way to go.
  15. Looking for that special knickknack, or gift for yourself or that special someone? Well, you're in luck again, as Steveston has a great variety of gift, curio and thrift shops.
  16. During the warmer months, buy fresh fruit, jams and honey from the friendly ladies running the Okanagan Fruit Stand in the parking lot behind the historic brick building at Moncton Street and 2nd Avenue.
  17. Put up your "Gone Fishing" sign and go fishing at London's Landing, a historic area at the start of the South Dyke Trail and south foot of No. 2 Road, with views of Steveston Island (aka Shady Island) and the historic Cannery Channel.
  18. Check out a historic farmstead at London Heritage Farm, with its quaint out buildings, gardens and fruit trees. The society runs a tea house within the heritage farm house, with numerous activities throughout the year.
  19. If you're an avid bike rider, there are plenty of trails to pedal around in Steveston. Take a look at items 2 and 3 above. Both great areas for a leisurely bike ride, or head east from the village to meet up with the South Dyke Trail at the foot of No. 2 Road.
  20. Speaking of bikes, if you're into mountain bikes, check out the Steveston Bike Park, located at the south end of No. 2 Road. This is a free, outdoor, unsupervised bike park for youth of all skill levels.

  21. Go fishing from the No. 2 Road Fishing Pier and Float. This historic area, at the beginning of the South Dyke Trail, has views of Steveston Island (aka Shady Island) and the Cannery Channel. Here you will find a fishing float, picnic tables, washrooms, interpretation signage and parking.
  22. Okay, gang, meet you at the Night Shift. Night Shift is where youth can hang with friends, DJing, watch movies, grove to a local band, and much more at a local community center.
  23. Steveston With Active Teens (SWAT) is a group that meets weekly to plan dances, special events and community activities. It is a great way for teens to meet new people, get involved and earn C.A.P.P. hours.
  24. Urban Packers—An Interpretive Walk Through Steveston for youth, so put on your walking shoes, your thinking caps and backpacks, and discover some of Steveston's history. Please call 604-231-6427 for more details.
  25. Not a thing to do in itself, but do check our Events Calendar regularly, as it's full of all sorts of fun things to do in Steveston.
