Steveston to get new fire hall

On the site of the old fire hall at No. 2 Road and Steveston Highway a new fire hall will be constructed on approximately .76 acre parcel of land owned by the City of Richmond. The work will consist of demolition of the existing fire hall, site development and new construction of an approximately 8000 square foot facility built to post disaster standards and LEED Silver level. The facility will include elements such as green roofs, recycled building materials and renewable energy through wind power and geothermal heat exchange. During construction, Richmond Fire Rescue will continue to operate out of a temporary truck shelter and dormitory building to be located on the southern portion of this site. The preliminary budget for this work is approximately $4.7 million.
