Come Light Up Steveston This 2006 Holiday SeasonCome join us in historic Steveston for our annual Spectacle of Lights 2006 events. Fun for the entire family: Carolling, lighting the Christmas tree, hayrides and Santa.
he Historic Fishing Village of Steveston is shaping up to be the jolliest place this side of the North Pole this Christmas. With holiday lights aglow, extended shopping hours and a host of merry events, the Spectacle of Lights event in Steveston Village is sure to welcome the holiday season to Richmond in style.
The festivities begin on Friday, December 8th with the carolling procession and lighting of the Christmas tree at Fisherman's Park. Beginning at 6:00 pm, at the corner of No. 1 Road and Moncton Street, the Steveston Community hayride will lead a procession of carollers as they head down Moncton Street to Fisherman's Park. The seasonal sounds of Christmas carollers will continue outside the Gulf of Georgia Cannery National Historic Site, where Mayor Malcolm Brodie will light the majestic 40 foot tall Christmas tree. Surrounded by quaint buildings and holiday spirit galore, even Scrooge would admit to feeling the warmth of the season. The fun continues the following day, when Santa takes time out of his busy schedule to visit the Village of Steveston. At 2:00 pm on Saturday, December 9th, join the crowds gathered at the Fisherman's Wharf (next to the Bayview pier) to welcome Santa, where he will arrive by boat. Be sure to bring your camera, as Santa will walk with the children to the Gulf of Georgia Cannery and will then greet children and pose for photos. While you're in the festive spirit, what better time to start your holiday shopping? The shops in Steveston offer a unique atmosphere and selection, away from the crowded shopping malls. The shops are open for Christmas shopping now, and will stay open late during the Spectacle of Lights. These free events are brought to you by local community groups, Tourism Richmond and the Steveston Community Society.
