Italian Restaurant the Best I've Ever Been In

by Dave & Lyn
(Western Australia)

We visited family in Steveston in 2002 and enjoyed the relaxed and friendly village life. The Italian restaurant must have been one of the best I've ever been in - superb attention to customers, great food and Ozzie wine on the list! Could live here easily if we had more money!

Reply: Thanks for input, Dave and Lyn. The Italian restaurant you are referring to is Papi's, run by award winning chef/owner Ken Iaci. Ken hails from a cooking family. He bought the 22-year-old restaurant in 2003, but unfortunately, a devestating fire gutted the place in the spring of 2007. The exterior looked untouched, but Papi's Ristorante and the adjoining wine bar, Mondo Vino, have been rebuilt and reopened early 2008.

Ken is thrilled with his new eatery and wine bar and, of course, kitchen... what chef wouldn't.

Enjoy,

Dave Davis

The Roast Lamb at George's Taverna was excellant

For dinner, the Roast Lamb was succulent and tender, the portion was huge - I had to take some home. The staff was helpful and quick to attend to all my wants. I recommend this restaurant to all - it is so great to see a family run restaurant contributing their passions to the community. Visit George's and support the local small businesses in Steveston.

Review: George's Taverna

For my entree, I ordered the Grilled Salmon Platter. A fist-sized piece of juicy salmon, which was in season when we were in Canada, arrived perfectly grilled on a bed of flavorful rice. It was served with a rustic Greek salad and the most delicious potatoes I've ever eaten. The potatoes had been peeled, halved, boiled, drained, and tossed in a profoundly simple sauce made from melted butter, salt, and lemon juice. They were soft, fluffy and flakey. I could have eaten an entire plate of them. I ended up eating all of mine and half of Cat's. The salad was also delicious, composed of tomatoes, bell peppers, olives, cucumber, herbs, and feta cheese. Drizzled with a light vinaigrette, it tasted fresh and invigorated my appetite. The rice was perfectly cooked and al dente. Each large kernel was separate from the others. It paired very well with the flaky and juicy salmon.
