Review: Blue Canoe Restaurant
My girlfriend and I wanted to celebrate our 2nd year anniversary at a fine dinning restaurant. We saw your restaurant posted on the Steveston village website (http://www.stevestonivillage.com/stevestonfinedining.html) under the fine dining tab. After taking a look at your website, we were excited and looked forward to eating at your restaurant. We made a reservation for June 6, 2011 at 6.30pm and made a special request to sit on the patio. This was our first time eating at your restaurant. Upon arrival, your hostess was professional and accommodating to our need of sitting inside instead of outside as my girlfriend was too cold to sit out on the patio. Our experience was pleasant until we had to wait over 10 minutes to be greeted by our waitress. After ten minutes, our waitress acknowledge that she would be right with us and we still had to wait a few more minutes before she greeted us. We knew what we wanted to order ,asked for water, and she left with our orders. We ordered the ‘salmon tartare’, the ‘mussels, clams and haystack fries canoe style’ and the ‘crab sandwich’. We waited another 10 minutes before I had to remind our waitress that we had asked for water. Within 15 minutes of our order, we received the appetizer. The presentation of the salmon tartare did not look appealing, however, it tasted delicious. After receiving our appetizer, we waited another 30 minutes before our entrees arrived. During our wait, we saw the disorganization of your staff as many orders were misplaced and your waitresses and waiters did not know which orders went to which tables. There were many mistakes of bringing the wrong plate to the wrong table and our appetizer was brought the wrong table. My girlfriend also saw one your staff members rebuking our waitress for messing up the orders. This is not professional, and this is certainly not a fine dinning experience. I was pleasantly surprised with my crab sandwich and enjoyed the amount of crab there was in it. However, my girlfriend did not enjoy her entrée of the ‘mussels, clams and haystack fries canoe style’ as the stilton cheese was not pleasant to her palate. She enjoyed the broth, mussels, clam and fries, but the stilton cheese did not blend well with the rest of the ingredients. Our waitress did not come by and ask how our food was during our entrée. After finishing our meals, we waited to find our waitress to ask for the bill. She had still not come by and we asked another waitress for the bill. The other waitress took our plates and said our waitress would be with our bill shortly. We waited 10 minutes, and finally we asked a waiter for the bill telling him this was our second time asking for it. Our waitress came shortly after, we paid our bill and left. We were extremely upset with our experience at your restaurant and this will be the last time we eat at the Blue Canoe. We will also be posting our experience on the Steveston Village website and we will be telling all our friends and family about our experience. We felt that it was important for you to know that your customers do not want to have this negative and disorganized experience, especially if your restaurant claims it should be part of the fine dining experience. Your restaurant overall serves decent food, however, it should not be labeled as fine dining. Based on our experience, the quality of the service and food, the Blue Canoe should be under the same category as a pub. |
