the letter Last week I had the opportunity of joining my Tourism Richmond peers on a Steveston familiarzation tour. Among the venues that day, was lunch at Pajo's at Garry Point Park, one of two Pajo's in Steveston,

the other being on a barge next to the government docks on Steveston Harbour.

Fish and chips was my favorite as a child, and I still enjoy good fish and chips from time-to-time. This is a Pajo's specialty in cod, halibut and salmon variations. It seems I'm not alone in my love of this timeless favorite, and there's no shortage of Steveston eateries that offer fish and chips, with Pajo's being a longtime favorite.

I ordered what I consider 'classic' Canadian fish and chips, and that would be cod fish and chips. Pajo's does offer hamburgers and hotdogs, but seafood and chips are their mainstay. Their fish is of the more lightly battered variety, cooked to perfection and served with a large quantity of crispy french fries (Our American neighbors consider chips as being of the bagged variety), served in a paper cone that can be place in the round holes in the tables. It doesn't get much more basic than that.

Although there are other fish and chips in Steveston I prefer more, as I like a slightly heavier batter, Pajo's does a great job, as attested by hundreds of customers on sunny weekends. I would give them the best value-for-the-money award, and they can't be beaten for views, with locations on the water in the village and in the park. In fact, they have 4 scenic locations, all in parks, but for the original Pajo's at The Wharf on Steveston Harbour.

So, if enjoying some comfort food under blue West Coast skies is your idea of heaven, Pajo's is the spot for you. Check them out at Pajo's at Garry Point Park, at the foot of Moncton Street at 7th Avenue, Steveston (Richmond), BC, Tel: 604-204-0767, or Pajo's at The Wharf, floating on the river at the corner of 3rd Avenue and Bayview Street, Steveston Village (Richmond), BC, Tel: 604-272-1588. For more information, check out their website at http://www.pajos.com. Wheelchair accessible in the park, but not sure about the Pajo's at The Wharf (on a barge).
