Nominations Being Accepted for Outstanding Employers
by Linda Reid, MLA Richmond East, Olga Ilich, MLA Richmond Centre, John Yap, MLA Richmond-Steveston
"The modern workplace demands employers support their staff, many of whom may be juggling child care at the same time as elder care. These supports are important recruitment and retention strategies and businesses that employ them should be celebrated," said Reid, MLA for Richmond East. "WorkLife BC Awards pay tribute to employers who advocate a work-life balance," said Ilich, MLA for Richmond Centre. "Such workplace policies can help people meet the needs of their work and personal life more effectively, which in turn increases productivity and helps harmonize the demands of the employer and employee." "These awards recognize outstanding local employers who demonstrate fairness, inclusiveness and flexibility," said Yap, MLA for Richmond-Steveston. "They are important and timely as we forge ahead with our goal of strengthening B.C.'s economic competitiveness and attracting workers." Workplaces in B.C. from all sectors—public, private, non-profit and cooperative are eligible for an award. A workplace that is a unit, branch or division of a larger organization may apply on its own. Nominees will be considered for the following awards:
Members of the WorkLife BC Advisory Committee, who are leaders in the province's business community, will evaluate the nominations. WorkLife BC Award recipients will be featured at the WorkLife BC Forum in Vancouver, at the Wosk Centre for Dialogue, on February 1, 2008 and in a full-page ad in BC Business Magazine.
