MLA Yap Speaks About New Steveston Farmers and Artisan Market
(Steveston, BC Canada)
Richmond-Steveston MLA John Yap rose in the Legislature today to speak about the new Farmers and Artisan Market coming to Steveston.
"This market will showcase some of the community's finest local flavours. Local produce, fresh seafood, arts, crafts and entertainment will fill the compound of the Gulf of Georgia Cannery," said Yap. "This market will give Richmond farmers and others from across British Columbia an opportunity to showcase their best for both locals and tourists alike."
The new Farmers and Artisan Market will be hosted by the Steveston Community Society and the City of Richmond. Every Sunday starting from May 4th to September 28th, the market will take place in the heart of the historic Steveston Village offering a host of local goods for visitors and community members to enjoy.
"The market will serve as a focal point where people can come to shop and socialize in their own community," Yap told the house. "After many years of trying to organize a farmer's market, small domestic farmers will now be able to sell their products locally. Vendors will benefit from the supportive marketing team, wider exposure and the opportunity to serve a growing residential community as well as tourists who come to Steveston.
"Our community is fortunate to have this market to enjoy for the summer months."
