Locals Howard and Ann Metcalfe report from Nepal

OCTOBER 23, 2008--Hello Everyone, We are now at a town at the base of the Kumba Valley home to the highest mountains in the world. Today is rest and acliminatization day in Namche Bazar. This little town is the center of trade in this region, and has dozens of lodges built to house trekers and mountaineers. We are at a height of 11,300 ft. skies are cloudless, and during the day we are hiking in shorts, but by evening we are the temperature dropped to -10.

Today, we climbed to a viewpoint at 12,300 ft. and got our first view of Everest and surrounding great mountains, unbelievable!

The culture in Nepal is incredible, prayer flages and prayer wheels everywhere.
