Blaney moved to Steveston 8 years ago when son, Sam, was born. Jodie and her husband, Jeff, left Toronto to return to a quiet, more relaxed life on the West Coast. They settled in Steveston to reconnect with old friends and introduce Jeff to everything Richmond has to offer. They both continued careers in book publishing, working as consultants from their home offices, but after a while, Jodie began to think about living a more creative life. Local scenery provided endless inspiration; fishing boats, scenic walks, and an ever-changing river and sky. Soon she began training at Living Stone Art Studio and attending Emily Carr University. Jodie began to sell her work locally. An exciting new chapter of her life had begun. A few years ago, much to her son's delight, Jodie and Jeff created a studio on the top floor of their home on Richmond Street. After school became her time with son, Sam, to explore and create together. For his birthdays, Jodie hosted art parties which she enjoyed as much as the kids. Then, she volunteered as an art teacher in the community and enjoyed seeing children create and express themselves. Recently, a good friend asked, "Why don't you do classes for kids from your studio?" The idea began to take shape and voila!
