Everything Old is Groovy Again, states Auntie Em

The media is awash with reports on green this, eco that, sustainability, etc. And, it's about time, IMHO. We can all do our part and one local entrepreneur, Emily Langevin, the Auntie Em behind Auntie Em's ReCreations is doing just that. You may have seen her last year at the Steveston Farmers and Artisans Market selling her recycled jewelry. "I love to scour estate sales, thrift stores and antique fairs to find fabulous vintage jewelry," states Emily Langevin, aka Auntie Em.

Emily has a great appreciation and fondness for vintage jewelery. In 2005, she decided to combine her longtime passion for jewelry and design by taking yesterday's treasures and making them modern: from kitschy and fun to elegant and delicate. Emily thanks many individuals and store owners who have kindly donated materials that would have either ended up in a landfill, or idly sat on a dresser or in the bottom of a jewelry box. "Beauty can be found in the strangest of places and the options are only limited to the depths of my imagination," says Emily, and I couldn't agree with her more.

Emily breaks down vintage broaches, pins, earrings and necklaces, into a treasured collection of sparkling, colorful rhinestones, semi-precious stones, unique art glass, faux pearls, Swarovski crystals, Czech glass, opalescent, Venetian glass, vintage metal filigree, simple white buttons, extravagant buttons, unique beads, chandelier crystals and lots of glitz. She re-works and restyles the retro, recycled materials into funky, new one-of-a-kind pieces which can then begin a new journey in the world of fashion accessories, adding a sparkle to an evening suit or a pair of jeans.

Belt buckles are one of the latest additions to the Auntie Em collection of bracelets, earrings and necklaces. Emily inlays bits and baubles from her collective treasures to create an art deco flair or a subtle art nouveau, French-styled piece, as well as offering black or brown leather snap on belts. The possibilities, combinations and colors available allow her imagination to flourish.

Sustainability and recycling are the ways of the future, and whether you are just looking for something fun or are a collector of vintage jewelry, Auntie Em's ReCreations can offer you a retro or refined look that will express your unique personality. Think retro-respectful when you wear Auntie Em's pieces. After all, "everything old is groovy again."

Auntie Em's ReCreations will be offering its one-of-a-kind pieces again at the Steveston Farmers and Artisans Market in Steveston from May 24 through October 11, every other Sunday from 10am - 3pm, or directly from the Auntie Em's ReCreations website.
