EVENT: Steveston Grand Prix of Art coming September

The painting event of the year is celebrating Culture Days Canada, September 25-26, 2010 at Britannia Shipyards. The concept of the Grand Prix of Art is to promote local arts in a fun and interactive manner. Artists from around the province are invited to participate in a day of Plein Air painting in Steveston. Participating Artists will be allocated a location in Steveston where they will have 3 hours to complete a work of art, before returning it to the shipyards for display. The works will be then be judged selecting a Runner-Up and the Grand prize winner. Young artists are also invited to participate with a dedicated award for youth, as well as numerous participation awards. Visitors will also be given an opportunity to vote for a "People’s Choice Award." On September 25th art lovers, family and friends are welcome to join them in and around Steveston to watch art in action with the Gulf of Georgia’s 10:00 o’clock fog horn marking the start if this very unique race. The results of all this creative energy will be on display between 2pm-4pm in the Chinese Bunk House at Britannia Heritage Shipyard, where the paintings will be displayed for the public again on Sunday September 26th from 10am – 3pm. All painting and drawing mediums are welcome, with many of the completed works being displayed at supporting businesses after the event. The prize money is not yet confirmed, although they are hoping for a grand prize of $500-$1000. This year the event will be limited to 50 participating artists, hoping to attract high profile, intermediate and student painters alike.
