EVENT: Salmon Stomp 2010 Stomps Steveston Again

(Steveston, BC Canada)

This year’s Salmon Stomp is on Sunday, August 8. Join us from noon to 6:30 pm for live music, street entertainment, and childrens' activities. Best of all, the Cannery will have free admission, courtesy of G & F Financial Group.

Time | Performer
Noon Chanel Stasiuk began singing at a very young age and currently is challenging herself with songwriting as well as performing. Chanel comes from a musical family and continues on with the tradition of singing, performing, and songwriting.

1:00 pm Skystone and its members are equally at home in any Celtic musical setting, be it East Coast (our specialty!), Scots, Irish, or any combination of these.

2:00 pm Kutapira is forging new links between the traditions of Zimbabwe’s marimba music and the rhythmic soul of Afro Cuban drumming. Kai Buchan, Jeremy Bryant, Sangito Bigelow, Chris Couto and Theo Vincent are all fluent in both disciplines; rotating through their battery of soprano, tenor and baritone marimbas and trading licks on the drum kit, timbales and hand drums.

3:00 pm Doug Andrew & The Circus in Flames has grown to include various players, frequently touring Western Canada, appearing at several folk and music festivals and garnering critical acclaim. The group’s “unique but rooted musical vision” (Vue Weekly) has inspired the description “garage string band” but its sound can be difficult to pin down. Although there is a certain familiarity about the music, stemming from its roots in traditional country, folk, and blues, at its heart are Andrew’s songs.

4:00 pm Kokoma African Heritage Ensemble is a Vancouver based African dance and drum performance company. Founded by Maobong Oku from Nigeria, the company is made up of daughters and sons of the African Heritage. Together they promote cultural awareness, greater understanding and appreciation for the sacred African culture through traditional African songs, dance and drum performances.

5:00 pm The current line-up of Doghouse has many years of combined talent and experience to draw from, and has proved popular at each appearance. The band manages to keep people’s feet tapping with its varied performance of songs and music wherever it plays. Although billed as a Celtic folk band, Doghouse is very diverse and can add country and jazz flavors to its repertoire.
