The children, of course, enjoy the Easter Egg Hunt and bunny rabbits, and the sweet chocolate things that go with Easter.Every Easter participating merchants decorate their shop windows Easter Bunnies, Easter Eggs and flowers, with an Easter Egg Hunt for the kids debuting this year. The Steveston Community Centre hosted an Easter Party for 1- to 9-year-olds. Through Saturday and Easter Sunday, the London Heritage Farm is putting on another fun Easter Bonnet Tea in their turn-of-the-century—20th Century—tea room. The Christian festival of Easter celebrates the resurrection of Jesus Christ. The festival has its roots in the Jewish Passover, which commemorates Israel's deliverance from the bondage of Egypt. In the Christian reinterpretation of its meaning, after the crucifixion of Jesus during the Passover of AD 30 was the proclamation of his resurrection three days later. Easter Day is currently determined as the first Sunday after the full moon on, or after March 21. The Eastern Orthodox churches, however, follow the Julian, rather than the Gregorian calendar, so their celebration usually falls several weeks later than the Western Easter. Easter is preceded by the period of preparation called Lent. Steveston, with its ambient fishing village atmosphere, comes to life each spring, with plenty for visitors to see and do. Steveston is located at the mouth of the South Arm of the Fraser River, in the south western corner of Lulu Island. The City of Richmond takes up most of Lulu Island, with the Vancouver International Airport located on a smaller adjacent island called, Sea Island. Steveston is 15 miles (24 km) south of Vancouver.
