This past Sunday you may have noticed a few changes to the Steveston’s Legacy statue in front of the Cannery. The installation is now complete with the addition of a handcart with information about the statue as well as a donor list.
Also, several copper rubbings were added to the cement bench. These rubbings depict different aspects of the fishing industry in British Columbia, including vessels and fish species. In honor of these new rubbings, the Cannery Society, along with our partner the Steveston Community Society, has produced a new booklet,
"Steveston's Legacy."
This booklet includes blank pages for each of the rubbings, as well as fun activities which relate to the rubbings. It’s a great way to learn about the West Coast fishing industry while having fun. Booklets are free at the Cannery with each purchase of a Youth (6-16) admission, or may be purchased for $1.00. Booklets are also available at the Steveston Community Centre and the Steveston Museum.
