Rick Thomson, co-owner of Steveston Seabreeze Adventures, whale watching tours
What's Up With Whales! Our resident whale watching expert, Rick Thompson, is a lifelong resident of Steveston, and co-owner of Steveston Seabreeze Adventures, a local whale watching, charter, fishing and eco tour operator. Rick, who has 30 years experience in the commercial fishing industry, will keep you on top of what's happening during the season, and will answer your questions on whales and other marine mammals, as well as fishing in the area.


John Yap, MLA for Richmond-Steveston
From the Desk of John Yap, MLA for Richmond-Steveston is John Yap's column on provincial government events and policies. John Yap was first elected in the riding of Richmond-Steveston in the 2005 provincial general election. He was elected Government Caucus Chair on September 13th, 2006 and serves on the Treasury Board, the Select Standing Committee on Public Accounts and the Special Committee on Sustainable Aquaculture. Dave Kemp's photo
Photography With Dave Kemp: Tips, Tricks and Other Good Stuff is Dave Kemp's new column on the techniques of good photography. Dave is co-owner/operator, along with his wife, of Picture Perfect B & B just north of the village of Steveston. Into the photography hobby since he was 11-years-old, Dave will shoot anything that catches his eye. His photos featured on television, as well as the Vancouver Sun and Province newspapers, and Real-Estate Weekly. Dave says: "If you ask me to take a photo of something, I will do it until I have achieved 100% satisfaction for myself and the individual who requested it." Apart from photography, Dave enjoys cooking, which at one point in his early career, he was aiming to become a chef. Erika Koenig-Workman of Typographika
Arts in the Community is Erika Koenig-Workman's new column on arts and artists in our community. Erika was born in Leeds, England and immigrated to Canada with her family in 1966. Erika grew up in Greater Toronto and came out to BC in 1984. As a child, she dreamed of becoming a dancer, but spent more time climbing trees than taking classes. She attended York University and is a self-taught artist with a multimedia background, which includes visual art, dance, theater and voice. Erika is currently returning to graphic design through her new business, Typographika Designo, and is pursuing visual arts at Living Stone Studio. Erika lives and works in Steveston with her husband Doug Workman and three sons, and cat named Ella.

Andrea's Web Tips: Andrea Wilson, our business Web expert, has 26 years of computer experience, including customer service, management and software support. She holds a Web Publishing Certificate from Langara College, Vancouver, BC, and is a member of the International Webmasters Association and the HTML Writers Guild.
