Bad quality seafood
Five of my friends and I were strolling in Steveston and decided to eat at a restaurant that has a patio looking over the water. We have been to Shady Island before for fish and chips in the afternoon, and it was fine, so we decided to try it for dinner. The server was friendly and attentive... but the food was dreadful. We started with a dozen fresh oysters which left a very unpleasant aftertaste. We don't believe it had "gone bad," but I would not recommend oysters from Vancouver Island. We had steamed mussels, which were overcooked and most probably frozen to begin with; the warm seafood salad was watery with sad looking leaves and frozen seafood again; yam fries and calamari were okay; the halibut fish and chips was probably the only dish we enjoyed; the jumbo scallops were BURNT, left a bitter taste in my mouth... at that point we just wanted to get the bill and leave. We ended up at Brown's Social House and had another meal there. We believe it was poor quality control and poor management. You would expect better seafood quality being so close to water. I would NEVER go back again. Oh, the kitchen closed at 8 or so, too early for me. I would rate my experience there a 2/10.
