2009 Farmers' Market off to great start

Yesterday brought sunny, mild weather and five-thousand market fans to the second year of the Steveston Farmers and Artisans Market. Thanks to the Steveston Community Society and an army of dedicated volunteers, The Market got off to another great season's opening on Sunday at Fisherman's Park in the heart of the village.

There was music, dancing and juggling on the main stage, and another act elsewhere with flute and violin. Just south of last year's location with a flock of new vendors and many from last year. From organic produce, artisan's preserves and cheeses, to one-of-a-kind paintings and photographic arts. A pleasant surprise, which I had pointed out to the organizing committee, was an increase in booths serving ready-to-eat foods such as mouth watering sweet corn-on-the-cob, hotdogs, smokies, hamburgers, along with lemonade and popcorn from last year.

The crowds enjoyed the sunny day and blue skies with our 'Monster Cannery' as a backdrop. A better location, I think, so hopefully it will work out for everyone.
